Live Music: Uncanny Erie presents J Candeed w/ Jacob Perez and Marble Berry Seeds
J Candeed is the musical embodiment of the optimistic spirit. With an upbeat and evolving sound, he blends elements of the hill-country blues, traditional bluegrass and psychedelic groove using a mandola, kick and snare drum. Born and raised in Mississippi, he was not only immersed in the hypnotic grooves of R.L. Burnside and Junior Kimbrough but also in the traditional gospel melodies ringing from the church pews.
Jacob Perez is a songwriter living in Cincinnati, OH. His songs are earthy, contemplative and full of vivid images and stories. He traverses many sonic traditions of American music, garnering comparisons to a wide range of artists from Jason Isbell to Pavement. His songs often lament the struggle of being a working-class artist, celebrate the joy of love and friendship and or parse through memories and past lives. On his sophomore effort, Signs, Jacob’s songs are cradled by full band arrangements including slide guitar and organ. His live shows offer a sparse and intimate retelling of these stories, inviting the listener to feel a little bit less alone in the world.
Marble Berry is a queer lil folk project that sings queer lil songs about god & the government, nature & shopping malls, isolation & infestations, and more!
